Please be kind, respectful and patient with everyone around you — fellow guests and volunteers alike. Our volunteers give their evenings and early mornings freely to make this space feel warm and welcoming, so a little consideration goes a long way.

ANNUAL EVENT
GrowTH Celebration Service
Once a year the whole GrowTH family gathers — guests, volunteers, staff and every partner church — to give thanks for the season just gone. We hear from guests who've moved into their own place, remember those still on the journey, and eat together. If you've stayed with us this year, this evening is for you.

GrowTH — Tower Hamlets Christians Reaching Out — is a partnership of local churches working together so that no one in Tower Hamlets has to sleep on the street alone.
What we do
We run a rotating night shelter hosted by churches across the borough, a Day Centre for personal development, and one-to-one advocacy support to help guests move on into stable accommodation.

partner churches across the borough

guests welcomed in 2025/26
What we believe
We are a Christian charity, and our care comes from the belief that every person carries God's image and is worth walking alongside. Support here is never conditional on faith — you are welcome exactly as you are.
Posts are checked by GrowTH staff. Report anything that worries you and we'll look at it the same day.

One with Christ, made new
When you give your life to Christ, something real happens before you ever step near water. God joins you to Jesus by his Spirit. You are no longer standing on your own — your life is bound up with his.
"But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit."
1 CORINTHIANS 6:17
The new covenant
The old covenant was written on stone and depended on us keeping it. The new covenant is written on the heart and rests on what Jesus has already done. His death dealt with your past; his resurrection gives you a new life to live. This isn't you turning over a new leaf — it is God making you new from the inside out.
"If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!"
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17
What the water pictures
Down into the water, the old man is buried. Up out of the water, the new man rises, a completely new identity.
🧍
↓
Buried with him
The old man goes under. He does not come back up.
🧍
↑
Raised with him
A new creation stands up, alive to God.
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
ROMANS 6:4
So what is water baptism?
Water baptism doesn't make the change happen — it announces it. Going down into the water is a picture of the old you being buried with Christ. Coming up out of it is a picture of rising with him into new life. The old man is dead. You are not patching up who you were; you are walking out as someone new.

A real man, in real history
Jesus of Nazareth lived in an occupied province of the Roman Empire around two thousand years ago. He worked as a carpenter until he was about thirty. For three years he taught, healed people and gathered a following of fishermen and outsiders. Then he was executed. His followers said they saw him alive again three days later, and that claim changed the world.

The question he asks you
Jesus turned to his closest friends one day and asked, "But whom say ye that I am?" That is still the question. Not what your family believed, not what you were told as a child — what do you make of him?

A prayer, if you want one
"Jesus, I have gone my own way and I cannot fix it myself. Thank you for dying for me and rising again. I turn to you now and I receive you. Come and make me new, and be my Lord from here. Amen."
There is nothing magic in the words. What matters is that you meant it.

Ask a question about this
Someone to talk to, just the two of you
A shelter is a busy place. There are people in every room, the lights go on early, and there is nowhere much to go and think. If there is something you would rather say quietly to one person, you can ask for that here.
It might be prayer. It might be something weighing on you — family you have not spoken to, a decision coming up, or a day that has just been hard. It might be nothing more than a proper cup of tea and a conversation that is not about forms. All of that counts, and none of it is too small to ask for.
What you can expect
It stays between you and the person you speak to. You will not be preached at, you do not need any faith to ask, and you can stop or leave at any point. Say as much or as little as you want.
Ask for a chat
Nothing here is compulsory — skip anything you would rather not say.

Who Christ is for you
This plan is not about trying harder to be a better version of the old you. That man died with Christ. Each day looks at who Jesus already is for you, in you, right now — and lets the new man be discipled by what is finished, not by what you owe.
"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me."

How to use this
Read the passage first, then the note. Do not ask "what must I do?" — ask "who is Christ here, and what is already true of me in him?" Obedience follows identity; it never produces it.
